I’d like to introduce you to Surfin’ Jack who is the spokesdog for Lucy Pet Products. I had the opportunity to meet Surfin’ Jack and many other famous pets, bloggers and media personalities at the BlogPaws 2016 Conference in Phoenix. BlogPaws is an online community that educates pet bloggers.
This was the 8th year of the conference and it attracted hundreds of bloggers from around the country and as far away as New Zealand. I personally had lunch with a blogger who was visiting from Germany.
The weekend was full of educational seminars that were taught by well-known professionals in the field like syndicated columnist and pet behavior consultant Steve Dale. Each class was designed to help me grow Lessons From A Paralyzed Dog into a bigger and bolder website that will reach more pet parents with paraplegic dogs and cats.
It also was an opportunity for me to meet innovative brands that work hard to make life better for disabled and disadvantaged pets. Here are my favorites:
Lucy Pet Products – Surfin’ Jack got involved with this brand after meeting their founder Joey Herrick who is on a mission to reduce euthanasia in the USA. The company’s mission to bring the highest quality products for your dog or cat’s health and raise funds for The Lucy Pet Foundation that helps animals in need. The company offers Cats Incredible kitty litter, natural dog shampoos like Purple Rain and Berry Berry Smellicious and Blue Lightning leave-in conditioning sprays.
WhiskerDocs – I have to say this was one of my top three favorite brands to meet because they are the perfect service for pet parents of disabled animals. You can learn more about them in a review I will soon be posting. WhiskerDocs is like having a personal veterinary expert at your disposal 24 hours a day. I already used them to get a second opinion about Bailey. The service has veterinarians and vet techs on hand to answer questions about your pet’s health or behavior. They are a good resource if you can’t reach your veterinarian is or need a second opinion.
4Knines – I get asked on regular basis about ways to keep your dog and your car dry when you are traveling with an incontinent pet. 4Knines makes a variety of premium, heavy duty, nonslip seat covers that protect your pet and the interior of your car. They have front and back seat covers, split back seat covers which are great for keeping a paralyzed dog safe, cargo liners and waterproof dog bed liners.
Dr. Buzby’s ToeGrips – I am a big fan of ToeGrips and this was my first opportunity to meet Dr. Julie Buzby who is the founder of the company. ToeGrips are an innovative product for dogs with hind end weakness. These dogs have a terrible time walking on slick surfaces and getting up from a seated position. ToeGrips are small rubber devices that fit onto your dog’s toe nails to give them immediate traction. It prevents dogs with their mobility and stability.

Songs For Dogs – This product answers another question pet parents ask about ways to prevent their paraplegic dog from becoming bored or depressed because they aren’t mobile. Songs For Dogs produced albums of music that appeals to a dog’s unique sense of hearing. The songs are soothing for dogs with separation anxiety and entertaining for dogs because of the added frequencies that are two octaves higher than music for people. Literature from Songs For Dogs has scientific research that backs up this theory.
Fresh Wave – I liked this product because it also solves a problem pet parents have about the odor of urine their incontinent dogs leaves on furniture, rugs and towels. Fresh Wave makes all natural products with no harmful chemicals. They have products that are added to your laundry to remove odors and odor removing sprays. Fresh Wave products are made from natural water and extracts of lime, pine needle, aniseed clove and cedarwood. These ingredients makes odor molecules disappear rather than cover them up.
Petcube – You have probably heard about the Petcube camera, but this was my first opportunity to see one demonstrated in person. Petcube is a 4x4x4” little box that hooks up to your WiFi so you can see, hear and chat with your pet while you are away. Petcube works with iOS and Android devices. It’s easy to install and even easier to work.
Hill’s Science Diet – Everyone is familiar with Hill’s Science Diet food, but I was invited to hear a presentation about Hill’s Shelter & Love program and their Pet Emergency Preparedness Kits. Through the Shelter & Love program Hill’s provides more than $240 million worth of healthy food to nearly 1,000 municipal shelters and rescue groups 365 days a year. They estimate they provide 6 million pets a year with a nutritional diet that keeps them healthy until they can be adopted. In addition, their Disaster Relief Network provides Emergency Preparedness Kits to shelters so they will be ready to take care of pets in the event of a natural disaster or other crisis. During the presentation I attended, Hill’s Science Diet awarded the Arizona Humane Society with 50 emergency kits.
Overall the BlogPaws Conference was an enlightening experience and whether or not you are a pet blogger, I highly recommend that you take advantage of one if it comes to your town. The 2017 conference will be held in Myrtle Beach, SC.
