One of the worst experiences for pet parents is to watch helplessly as their dog or cat is in pain and not be able to do anything about it. Most of the spinal injuries and diseases or neurological disorders I frequently write about are also extremely painful conditions for pets. That’s why I was so excited to learn about a brand new pain management device that is being introduced at this very moment during the American Veterinary Medical Association Annual Convention in Boston.
The Assisi Loop® 2.0 from Assisi Animal Health is a coil wire loop that offers safe pain relief for dogs, cats, horses and even reptiles. Without getting too technical the loop is a noninvasive device that rests on an injured part of the body to promote healing and reduce inflammation. The Assisi Loop sends a “targeted pulsed electromagnetic field” (tPEMF™) from outside the body, without anything touching the skin. Magnetic fields penetrate through bandages, casts, fur, hair, etc. It’s all based on a simple law of physics.
For People Who Want The Technical Facts:
The tPEMP produced by the loop causes a micro current to flow into the tissue, setting up a biological process that increases the production of Nitric Oxide, a key chemical in healing. This in turn causes Calcium to bond to Calmodulin. The combination of this bond plus the voltage from the loop produces “potentially therapeutic biological cascades” of natural anti-inflammatory healing.
The best part of the loop is that treatments can be done at home. They are typically administered in 15 minute cycles several times a day and pet parents in the clinical trial reported it was such a soothing experience, their dogs and cats napped during them. The coil loop comes in a large and small size and delivers 150 treatments. It is used as a stand-alone treatment or in conjunction with pain medications, laser treatments, acupuncture or chiropractic care.
Most pet insurance companies cover the cost of the device, but you should check with them first before ordering the loop.
Deirdre Chiaramonte, DVM, ACVIM, CCRT, CVA is the veterinary advisor who oversaw the initial clinical trials and will continue to oversee the follow up study.
The Assisi Loop alleviated pain for these conditions:
- Post op pain
- IVDD – Intervertebral Disc Disease
- Degenerative neurological issues
- Orthopedic injuries
- Pressure Sores
- Inflammation conditions
The Assisi Loop is available through your veterinarian and hopefully after the AVMA convention many veterinary offices will start carrying them. If not, it can also be ordered directly from Assisi Health with a prescription. The cost is $269 is purchased directly from Assisi.
Assisi Animal Health is a science-based company specializing in offering clinical therapeutic solutions to veterinarians or by veterinary prescription only to pet owners.
I am not being compensated for this story or to promote the Assisi Loop 2.0. I am just truly happy and excited to introduce it to readers because I see so many potential benefits it will bring to dogs and cats in pain.
