One of the most common questions I am asked is how to keep an incontinent dog dry while they are sleeping. Pet parents of paralyzed dogs worry about leakage onto their dog’s bed and the damage it can do to the dog’s skin if they lie in the area all night long. In a recent conversation with paralyzed pet expert, Leslie Grinnell, I was introduced to a bed that keeps your incontinent dog dry. It is used widely among veterinarians for their patients and now there is a model dogs can use at home.
If you don’t already know, Leslie and her husband Ed are the founders of Eddie’s Wheels for Pets. So, when Leslie recommended Komfy K9 beds, I thought I should educate myself about the company.
How the Komfy K9 bed keeps incontinent dogs dry.
Komfy K9 is a unique self-inflating waterproof bed that is odor-proof and easy to clean. It has an air mattress that is comfortable for a paralyzed dog or pets recovering from surgery. The bed has a cover that is simple to put on and take off so you can toss it in the washer.
The idea for the Komfy K9 bed came after the owners of the company watched as their 14-year-old dog, Sarah, sat in a kennel after surgery. Sarah injured her back and became paralyzed. During her recovery, they watched as vet technicians changed soiled bedding over and over in their dog’s crate. Each time their dog was forced to lay on the cold steel kennel while towels were brought out to disinfect the area and clean quilts were placed back inside. It was tough on a dog who had just been through surgery.
Komfy K9 beds for professionals and pet owners.
The original beds were made for veterinary hospitals. Now there is a plush Komfy K9 bed for paralyzed and incontinent dogs to use in their own home. It has all of the features of the original self-inflating waterproof mattress, but in addition there is a plush quilted cover for extra comfort. And the bed is designed to roll up if you are traveling with your dog.
