For the past three months I’ve been introducing you to Hill’s® Prescription Diet® Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution. The product is an exciting new food that helps overweight cats and dogs achieve success by activating their metabolism to regulate appetite and burn fat. While I’ve been talking about the research behind the product, a group of pets and their owners have been using the food in their homes. Today, I’m happy to share the real life success story of a tiny dog named Dash who had a weight problem.
Dash is the star of the Philly Dog blog and according to Rebecca he has been a “long-time member of the overweight dog club.” When 9 year-old Dash visited his veterinarian last year he weighed 12 pounds, when his ideal weight should have been 8 pounds. Rebecca said poor Dash looked like a sausage and the quality of his life was suffering.
“When we played fetch, he couldn’t run as fast and didn’t want to play as long as he used to. He has a collapsing trachea, which got noticeably worse,” said Rebecca.”
To help her dog, Rebecca tried the typical weight loss techniques suggested by her veterinarian. First she offered him a low-fat dog food, but the little guy refused to eat it. Then she moved to cutting back on the portions of his normal food and treats. This technique is hard to do because we love our four-legged buddies and we don’t want to see their little eyes begging for more food. Dash was able to slim down to 10 pounds, but his body plateaued.
That’s why Rebecca wanted to be part of the HillsPet in-home weight loss opportunity. The program is run without strict protocols or precise measuring. It’s set up to get real results in the real world. (88% of pets in a veterinarian supervised home study lost weight.)
Dash has been eating Hill’s® Prescription Diet® Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution canned and dry food plus their treat products for more than a month and is making good progress. He hasn’t been re-weighed yet, but Rebecca says his waist is becoming more defined. The best part is that Dash has more energy and his collapsing trachea has improved. Rebecca says she likes that she can feed Dash normal sized portions and doesn’t feel like she is starving her pup.
I’d like to thank Rebecca and Dash for sharing their story and allowing us to use Dash’s adorable pictures.
