Spencer is a paralyzed French bulldog who took his first steps thanks to some creative engineering from of a company that makes prosthetic limbs for people. His heartwarming story appeared this month in the Pet360 Newsletter and I thought the exciting news should be shared.
Spencer was found on the doorstep of his current owners when he was a puppy. Veterinarians suspect that whoever owned him first, dropped the dog or stomped on his back legs causing him to be paralyzed.
Because of his condition Spencer had never gotten the chance to take a real walk.
West Coast Brace and Limb in Tampa, FL offered to help the dog by designing two prosthetic legs. They didn’t know if the idea would work or if Spencer would understand how to use the legs. Fitted with bright green crocs for balance, the artificial limbs were strapped onto Spencer.
Without any hesitation the little dog took off as if he had worn the limbs his entire life. He ran up and down the halls of the clinic so fast he had to stop and take a water break.
