April 8 is National Dog Fighting Awareness Day and Lessons From A Paralyzed Dog is joining other bloggers in this Tuesday’s Tails to increase awareness about the cruelty that awaits dogs who are forced to fight. Dog fighting is illegal in the USA, but loopholes in many of the individual state laws still make it enticing and profitable.
In some states dog fighting is only a misdemeanor crime instead of a felony. In other states there are laws that prosecute the owner of the fighting ring, but there are no laws against the spectators who bet on the dogs or those who own them. The allure of a big payout brings hundreds of people to dog fights each week. Until the U.S. punishes those who attend dog fights and closes the loopholes, the cruelty will continue. Because Pit Bull Terriers are used most often, Tuesday’s Tails is highlighting the breed today. I’d like to introduce you to Kiwi!
