Lessons From A Paralyzed Dog is all about teaching people how to care for your paralyzed dog. We are a community that shares practical tips, the latest news and where to find products for the daily care of your pets with paralysis, spine and neurological conditions.
The website is dedicated to my dog Sophie and the lessons I learned after she became paralyzed. As an animal writer and co-founder of the Heaven Can Wait Animal Society I thought I understood the needs of pets, until Sophie got sick. Her illness changed my family’s life forever.
This blog shares our journey. It’s a place for ALL handicapped, paraplegic and special needs pets. We share health updates, daily living tips, resources for supportive equipment, like wheelchairs and the latest veterinary research and clinical trials.
Sophie was the fastest runner at the dog park. Running was her greatest pleasure. In 2008, she was stricken with a progressive paralysis that took away her ability to run, walk and later stand or even sit on her own. For the next five years she bravely learned to enjoy a new way of life.
This blog is not sad. Many of the lessons my family learned on our journey with Sophie were pretty funny. I hope you will read along with Lessons and share your story about caring for a disabled pet.
P.S. We do a lot of research before releasing information, but every case of paralysis is unique. Please be sure to check with your veterinarian.
