I am happy to announce the winner of our latest Giveaway sponsored by GingerLead®. The support and rehab harness will go to:
And her sweet dog
Congratulations from Lessons From A Paralyzed Dog!
Marcia was thrilled to hear that she and Smiley were the winners of the Giveaway.
“I am SO excited I couldn’t wait to write you back,” said Marcia. “This will be so very helpful for both my sweet, sweet girl and me!! You can see from the picture that Smiley’s right front foot is not quite right. It will be exciting for us to be able to use a harness that works to help her regain her strength and mobility.
I have MS and this might be the right kind of harness for me to be able to help Smiley go outside to do her business when my husband is not home.”
Marcia shared how Smiley was rescued as a puppy along with her brother after they were found living on their own in an orchard in Yakima, Washington. Smiley’s brother loved people and was soon adopted, but it took a long time for Smiley to warm up to having a family of her own. Then she met Marcia and her husband.
Since that time there have been several health challenges for Smiley. She nearly lost her vision due to severe cataracts. Her family drove 6 hours to get her the surgery she needed, but sadly the procedure was successful in only one eye. Then a couple of years later the dog needed two different surgeries to correct an issue with her stomach.
Earlier this year, Smiley began to have weakness in her hind legs. That led to her slipping on some ice on a bridge which caused an injury to her back and hips. Smiley was put on bedrest and recovered from the injury, but her back legs continued to get weaker. Now she is having trouble with a front leg as well. Her veterinarian has ruled out Degenerative Myelopathy, but thinks Smiley is suffering from some form of an autoimmune disease. Marcia is now taking her for acupuncture and rehab therapy. And soon Smiley will receive a full support quad cart that is being donated by Mango on a Mission.
You can follow Smiley on her new Facebook page: Sweet Sweet Smiley
“I have to say I have spent a lot of time crying in the last few months but in this last week my tears have been for joy,” said Marcia. “Thank you and GingerLead for adding to that!”

The founders of the company started GingerLead after their Golden retriever, named Ginger, was diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia. The dog underwent surgery and was given a sling to use during recovery. The harness didn’t give adequate support for the dog and her owners worried she might reinjure herself so they set about to develop a better product. That led to a whole line of comfortable and sturdy rehab and support slings.
I want to thank everyone who participated in the Giveaway. We had a great response from readers. Lessons From A Paralyzed Dog sends our appreciation to GingerLead for sponsoring their second Giveaway with us and for all the hard work they do to make quality products for our handi-capable pets.
Be sure to watch out for our next big Giveaway.
