Some of the best resource ideas for this blog have come from readers. That’s why I want to officially thank the pet parent who introduced me to Barkertime fashionable and functional apparel for incontinent dogs. This young company, that started in 2015, has quickly grown to become a worldwide provider of every product imaginable for incontinent pets. I think their products are so helpful, Lessons From A Paralyzed Dog has become an affiliate member.
Having a paraplegic pet almost always guarantees that you will be dealing with an incontinent dog or cat. That means learning how to express your pet’s bladder and educating yourself about the products to manage accidents and leakage. It is important for pet parents to have a reliable company to turn to.

How Barkertime fashionable and functional apparel got started.
Barkertime said they started their company out of necessity. The founders needed washable diapers for their own senior dogs, but were not happy with the quality they found on the market. They were looking for highly absorbent diapers that offered a soft fabric lining. They wanted a product that was gentle on their dogs’ skin and was easy to put on, take off, and adjust.
When Barkertime began making their diapers for other people’s dogs they also decided to add a little flare to each product. That’s why each diaper is designed to make a fashion forward statement.
The company uses fun bright colors and big bold prints on their diapers, belly bands and doggie overalls. Each piece of apparel will put a smile on your face. Some of my favorites are: Red Paradise Flowers, Pink Neon Polka Dot, and Orange Hot Pink Leopard. They reflect the sunny climate in Huntington Beach, California where the products are manufactured.

Barkertime apparel thinks outside the box.
One of the things I like most about Barkertime is their extended line of products. The company thinks outside the box. They carry apparel that never would have occurred to me.
Barkertime said they discovered a need for their products from their customers. They listened to feedback and suggestions from their veterinarian and pet parent clients. It inspired them to design innovative products that give the best care possible to dogs with disabilities.
Some of these unique products include:
- PeeJama – This is a soft body suit for dogs who are recovering from surgery. The PeeJama is a great alternative to the Elizabethan Collar (E-Collar or E-Cone). The shape of the body suit prevents dogs from biting at sutures or causing injury to themselves while they are healing.
- Pajama – This is a comfy doggie onesie that was designed to hold a diaper in place whether your dog is playing hard or curled up sleeping.
- Washable Cat Diapers – Doggie diapers are easy to find, but washable diapers that fit a cat’s body are harder to track down. Barkertime came up with this high-quality kitty diaper that is easy to use. They are great for cats who are incontinent or piddle due to paralysis or old age.
- Calming Shirt & Pressure Wrap – Paraplegic dogs can suffer from anxiety. The calming shirt allows pet parents to swaddle their dog’s body in cozy fabrics to ward away fears.
I will be sharing more about Barkertime in the coming weeks. I hope you’ll check out the products for yourself. If you use Barkertime, I’d love to hear about your experience.
My dog has become paralyzed non his back legs, I see a lot of diapers for females but, need foe male when they go poop. any suggestions?
Donna, Thanks for reaching out about dog diapers for your dog. It’s not that diapers are strictly for female dogs, it is that belly bands are made just for male dogs. You can use a diaper on your male to catch his poop. But honestly most people aren’t as concerned about bowel movements as they are urination and constant leaking from an incontinent dog. I don’t know how active your dog is, but you should be fine using a pee pad beneath wherever he is lying down to catch poop. I personally took my dog outside to express her bladder and that was the time she usually went poop as well. When her condition worsened I laid a puppy pee pad on top of her bed, where she stayed most of the time, and we didn’t have a problem. If your dog is very active and scoots around the house, I recommend you put him in a dog diaper to prevent an accident. I hope this information helps.
