Calli The Paralyzed Dog Learned To Walk After An Injury

I want to begin this post by saying that since I started Lessons From A Paralyzed Dog 2 ½ years ago I’ve had the pleasure of meeting the most dedicated and caring pet owners from around the globe. The story below proves that point because it begins in Africa and ends in Canada.
Recently I ran a story that started in Namibia where a pet mom named Natasha shared a video of the miraculous recovery her paralyzed dog Savannah made after a traumatic injury to the dog’s spine. When Karen Brandson watched the video from her home in British Columbia a flood of memories came rushing back to her about her dog Calli and the nearly identical video she had taken of the dog’s recovery from a blunt force trauma. Both Savannah and Calli had similar injuries and recoveries.
Karen reached out to share the connection and the video she filmed about Calli. [Read more…]
Dog Fitted With Prosthetic Limbs
The Soi Dog Foundation posted this amazing video of Cola, a dog who was fitted with prosthetic limbs. The young dog had his front legs severed with a sword because he chewed his neighbor’s shoes. Cola lives in Bangkok, Thailand and has been helped during his recovery by Soi Dog which rescues dogs and cats that have been abused or are living on the streets.
After months of recovery from his wounds, Cola was happy to be fitted with his new front legs. You can see the smile on his face when he is able to walk on his own again. Cola’s story has a happy ending thanks to the specialist who fitted him for his prosthetics and because he was officially adopted by the founders of the Soi Dog Foundation.
The Foundation adopts special needs pets to people from around the world, including the U.S. and Europe. Check out the dogs and cats who are ready for their forever homes on Soi Dog.
Paralyzed Dog Walks For The First Time
Buffy is the name of this little ball of black fur who is having the time of her life running around in her new dog wheelchair. Her pet mom is overjoyed as she watches her paralyzed dog maneuver a cart for the first time.
Dog wheelchairs can be a miracle for paraplegic pets. Buffy’s cart was a donation funded by a small but dedicated group called Mango on a Mission. Mango is a Cairn terrier who was rescued from a ditch on the side of the road in Fort Worth, TX. She had a broken back and pelvis and her hind end was paralyzed. Judy Walter saw Mango’s picture and instantly fell in love. She adopted Mango and together they now raise funds for wheelchairs for disabled dogs whose families can’t afford to buy one. Each cart is custom built for the recipient by Ruff Rollin Wheelchairs for Dogs.
Mango was recently named a finalist for the 2016 American Humane Association Hero Dog Awards® The public is invited to vote for their favorite finalist through August 24 at www.herodogawards.org.
We wish Buffy a happy life rolling in her cart and wish Mango good luck in the Hero Dog Awards.
