– We are taking time away from Sophie’s story to let Sue Grundfest share her story about taking care of a special needs dog named Kirby. Sue is a longtime supporter to Heaven Can Wait Animal Society, the animal welfare group I help to start and a major animal lover. She adopts only dogs with special needs and takes in the most challenging cases. Here is Sue’s story about her much beloved Kirby. –
When I met Kirby he looked like a very sad dog indeed.
He had been at Heaven Can Wait in their Pups on Parole program for quite a while. Older dogs are not the most desired it seems.
But Kirby was exactly what I was looking for. I had one dog when I moved to Las Vegas just months prior and wanted to add to our family. My first dog Coco the Love Dog was twelve years old, blind and deaf and an insulin-dependent diabetic so I wanted a very calm second dog who could understand her limitations.
