Thanks to technology, apps, and cell phones you can order just about anything online and have it delivered to your home. The folks at Petnostics took that idea and combined it with cutting edge science. Imagine having the ability to check your pet’s health with at-home diagnostic tests. It would make life easier if you have to monitor a pet for an ongoing illness.
The first product Petnostics developed was a urinalysis kit for diagnosing urinary tract infections. It was the perfect test kit for paralyzed dogs and cats who are prone to recurring UTIs. Petnostics just released two new at-home diagnostic tests for pets. One checks for bladder stones and the other monitors pets with diabetes.
Petnostics asked if Lessons From A Paralyzed Dog could do an honest review of their new Test Strips in exchange for a Giveaway of one of their diagnostic kits. I told them I would be happy to take part.
Here is what you need to know about the test kits before you enter the Giveaway
- You need a smartphone with a camera.
- Download the free Petnostics app before you start the test.
- Don’t worry about the technical side of the test, Petnostics has a tutorial to help.
The 3 tests use the same diagnostic strips that veterinarians use in their clinics
The UTI Test Strips
I loved this original product from Petnostics when I reviewed it last year. The kit gives owners the freedom to test at-home, get results, and then report back to their veterinarian. It is a good time-saving tool for those of us who have experienced recurring UTIs with a paralyzed dog. It eliminates running back and forth to the veterinarian’s office with urine samples.
The UTI test strips assess a dog or cat’s urine for Leukocytes, Nitrites, and Blood abnormalities. Just collect your pet’s urine in a cup or midstream and wet the strip. Then, place the test strip on the backing card so it can be read by the Petnostics app. The results give a range of values and a definition for each compound.
The Bladder Stone Test Strips
Bladder stones are microscopic crystals of minerals that live in the urinary tract or anywhere in the bladder. They can form due to an infection, dehydration, or when the urine pH changes. Over time, the crystals form into rock-like formations that can grow as large as 3” to 4”. Female dogs and certain breeds such as Minatare Schnauzers, Bichon Frises, and Cocker Spaniels are susceptible. Bladder stones are painful and block the release of urine. In some cases, they can be life-threatening.
The new Petnostics test for Bladder Stones is a unique at-home assessment for this specific disease. Once urine is collected over the test strip the Petnostics app checks for pH levels and Specific Gravity abnormalities.
The Diabetes Test Strips
Diabetes in dogs is a complex condition that requires constant monitoring. The new Diabetes test strip kit lets pet parents monitor this chronic disease. The strips assess your dog or cat’s urine for Glucose and Ketone abnormalities.
