If you’re the pet parent of a paralyzed dog, you know that most pups with spinal cord problems are usually incontinent as well. Most of us get used to this idea and get on with life. We learn to express our dog’s bladder or keep them dry in a dog diaper. But even with a strict bathroom schedule, accidents happen. And many of those accidents happen during night while your dog is sound asleep.

Well, I found the best bed for incontinent pups. It’s designed to catch urine, keep your dog dry and let them get the rest they (and you) deserve.

I don’t write product reviews very often, but I think the Sleepee Time Bed is a unique product that should be shared. The bed is made in the USA by Walkin’ Pets by Handicappedpets.com. This is the company who manufactures Walkin’ Wheels adjustable dog wheelchairs. I’ve been an affiliate with this company for 5 years and my dog Sophie used their cart.

The Sleepee Time Bed

During the period Sophie was paralyzed, I vividly remember the times when I got out of bed in the middle of the night because she was wet and uncomfortable. It broke my heart to see her upset because she had an accident. The Sleepee-Time Bed® would have been a great solution for our problem.

The bed works because the mattress is raised above the ground and made out of a fiber mesh material. This allows urine to flow through the mattress to a sturdy tray beneath it. Cozy fleece bolsters fit over the mesh bed to cuddle your dog all through the night. Then in the morning, if your dog’s had an accident, you simply empty the tray, clean it and store it back under the bed.

Sleepee Time keeps your dog’s skin dry and lets air circulate around them. It stands high enough to catch urine, but low enough for dogs with mobility problems, arthritis and orthopedic conditions to step in and out.

How the best dog bed for incontinent pups is designed

Sleepee Time is made of three individual parts. The raised vinyl-mesh mattress, soft fleece bolters and a sturdy tray to catch urine.

Here’s a side view for you to see all three the parts of the bed.

The fleece cushions are removable for easy cleaning of the mattress. The cushions are washable and the mattress can be wiped down with a non-abrasive household cleaner. You can even use a hose to clean the mesh mattress.

Sleepee Time comes in two sizes. There’s one for dogs up to 25lbs. and a larger bed for dogs like Golden retrievers and Labradors. It’s shipped in the contiguous United States.

A raised bed can treat and prevent urine scald

Urine is an acidic substance that can burn and irritate sensitive skin if it’s allowed to remain in contact with the skin for a long period of time. It happens when urine hits the skin on their lower belly because of an overflowing bladder or constant dribbling. Urine scald is painful. It’s like having a bad case of diaper rash for a human infant.

Too many dogs with incontinence suffer from this condition. The use of a raised mesh mattress is a great way to make sure your dog never has to deal with this problem.

Wow…..This sounds like a great product. With Bundas we used a “diaper” which we doubled for night times. It would have been nice to have one of these in the living room.

Great bed, something we might need to look into since Boomer leaks every now and then in his sleep.

This is no different then a mesh above ground bed they sell for dogs to be outdoors in the summer with some bolsters. That sells for about $50.00. how is the product $149.00 justified??

Helen, I am sure there are other products that work for incontinent dogs. I like the SleePee time bed because it has a back to it which prevents a paralyzed dog from falling out. And it has a wider mesh than typical outdoor beds that allows urine to flow through and land in pan that sits below the bed. That way a dog doesn’t sleep all night in their own urine. It is a good way to prevent urine scald. I also want to mention that I have an affiliate relationship with Handicapped Pets. I do so because I like the quality of their products.

Are the side pieces and mesh washable? I’ve read that the mesh isn’t washable and a replacement is about 40-50 bucks and that would be expensive when cleaning and replacing. The post I read was over a year old so I’m wondering of the mesh has improved and the side pieces clump up when washed.

Charles, You might want to call Handicapped Pets to see if everything on the bed is washable.
