Just in time for Spring, the warmer temperatures and more outdoor activities with your dog, Lessons From A Paralyzed Dog is excited to announce our Giveaway from Walkabout Harnesses. One lucky pup will win an Airlift One Support Harness to help them be more mobile.
Regular readers of this blog know how much I love the support harnesses and slings from Walkabout. Each of them allows pet owners to safely and comfortably lift and move a dog with mobility problems.
Cathy Erwin, who founded the company, is a respected friend to Lessons From A Paralyzed Dog. I was thrilled when she agreed to award her top of the line Airlift One harness to one of our readers.
If you aren’t familiar with the Airlift One Support Harness here is how it will help you and your dog.
The Airlift One back end support harness
Airlift One is the latest support harness from Walkabout. I used the Original Back End Harness for Sophie from 2008-2013. I chose it because my dog could wear the harness all day and because it was so easy to get Sophie into an upright position without straining my back. We kept two harnesses on hand, so I could toss one in the washer if it got soiled.
The Airlift One has 3 new features:
- It’s made from a breathable material called Airprene that has little holes for better circulation to your dog’s skin.
- The harness has adjustable handles that you can shorten or lengthen for your dog’s height.
- There is extra space in the harness for male dogs to urinate.
Here are other benefits of the Airlift One:
- The harness has a 4-point lifting system to cradle the pelvis of your dog while you lift them.
- It does not put pressure on sensitive internal organs such as the bladder, bowel, and kidneys.
- The harness has padded leg holes for soft lifting.
The Walkabout story
Cathy Erwin began Walkabout Harnesses in 1993 after studying physical therapy at the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific and after becoming head of surgery at Santa Cruz Veterinary Hospital.
She saw that dogs healed faster when they used a “walking aid” during rehabilitation. She took that information and pieced together the first Walkabout harness. Cathy has continued to personally design each of her harnesses, slings and other rehab products for disabled pets.
Each of her designs are clinically tested at major veterinary rehab facilities. They are made in the USA and endorsed by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.
