Disclaimer: I am not being compensated for this post. The products listed below are ones I discovered at SuperZoo and thought would benefit my audience.
One of the benefits of living in Las Vegas is that my city plays host to lots of conventions. SuperZoo was the most recent event for pet professionals and I had the opportunity to attend as part of the local press. It gave me the chance to check out and report to you the greatest products for paralyzed dogs.
More than 21,000 people attended the trade show, which is divided into two groups of professionals. They are made up of retailers who are looking for new products and dog groomers who want to enhance their skills through educational workshops. The groomers also demonstrate their amazing talents in competitions that go on throughout the week. It was wild.
I spent the time running all over the exhibit hall at Mandalay Bay tracking down the brands that would benefit owners with disabled pets. It was quite a job sorting through the 1,100 exhibitor booths.
Here are the greatest products for paralyzed dogs from SuperZoo 2018
New products I discovered
I was thrilled to catch up with Blake Anderson who is the managing director of Pet Parents™. The company makes washable dog diapers and belly bands that are cute, durable and extremely affordable. I examined both products and I have to say that I was very impressed with the quality.
Blake explained the diapers and belly bands each come in a 3 pack that range in sizes from XS – XL. And you’ll find them in an array of bright colors. The diapers and belly bands have a waterproof and leak-proof exterior shell, sewn-in super absorbent pads and elastic edges for a snug leak-proof fit. The diapers have a hole for your dog’s tail as well.
Both products can be found on Amazon and in specialty pet supply stores. The washable diapers range in price, depending on the size, from $18 to $22. The belly bands are $20 – $22.
I asked Blake about how long owners can expect the diapers and belly bands to last. He said that customers have reported using them for a year, if they are cared for as directed by the company.
If you are looking for economical protection for your incontinent dog that is durable and keeps your dog dry, I hope you’ll look at this great product for paralyzed dogs.
The next new product I found was doggie Pyjamas by FuzzYard. It looks like the perfect product to protect your paralyzed dog’s legs when the scoot around the house. Plus it will hold a dog diaper in place. The people at FuzzYard were surprised at how happy I was to find their product. They just thought the PJs were cute.
FuzzYard is known for their quality clothing line that keeps dogs warm and cozy so I am confident their Pyjamas will do the same. You can see all of the products from FuzzYard on their website.
Most pet owners with disabled dogs know about the use of laser therapy to speed up the healing process. Well LumaSoothe uses a similar technology called Low Level Light Therapy (LLLT) that can be used at home to increase cellular repair.
LLLT is a clinically tested option for pets that are suffering from arthritis, back pain, open wounds (like pressure sores) and a variety of skin conditions. It also has anti-inflammatory benefits.
LumaSoothe comes with two treatment options. One is for deep therapy treatments and the other is for surface problems on the skin. While LLLT therapy isn’t as powerful as laser therapy, I think LumaSoothe is a great option for pet owners who don’t have access to laser treatments. Or, with the okay from your veterinarian, this LLLT product can be used as an adjunct to laser therapy. You can find LumaSoothe on Amazon.
Old friends I found at SuperZoo
Walkin’ Pets by HandicappedPets.com
I was very excited to meet the team from HandicappedPets.com. They are the leading manufacturer in the U.S. of products to make life easier for disabled pets. They are also the company where I purchased Sophie’s dog wheelchair in 2009.
Debbie Tylus took me through their exhibit where I saw the Walkin’ Wheels MINI Dog Wheelchair for pets as small as Chihuahuas and bunnies and carts large enough to fit a Great Dane or even an Alpaca. You can find Walkin’ Pets products by clicking here.
Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food
Olivia and I love this company and their healthy dog food. We have partnered with them from now until the end of the year.
In fact, Olivia is currently hosting a Giveaway to win a 15lb. bag of Chicken Soup for the Soul dog food and two bags of savory treats. I invite everyone to enter. Just click here and leave a comment.
The two exhibitors I met couldn’t have been prouder to work for this family-owned and operated company. They walked me over to a wall that held all of their pet food products so I could see the many options. They also made sure I knew the company got its start with the famous series of Chicken Soup for the Soul books that touch so many lives.
When I met the owners of this company at a conference a couple of years ago, I discovered the best dog car seat cover. Jim and Maggie started 4Knines because they wanted a durable seat cover to protect their vehicle and still be comfortable for their two Dobermans.
They developed a classy-looking, washable and sturdy line of products for every type of vehicle. (And I really mean every vehicle.) At SuperZoo they introduced me to their latest product which has a split-cover for SUVs. It’s designed to let a person sit on one side of the SUV rear seat while protecting the other side with the cover.
Bailey and Olivia have used our seat cover for years. The only time it isn’t in our car is when it has been tossed in the washer.
And last but not least, I had the pleasure of talking with the owners of GingerLead support harnesses. This company has been a good friend to Lessons From A Paralyzed Dog and they will soon host another giveaway for readers of our blog.
GingerLead makes strong and comfortable slings that provide support for dogs with hind end weakness. It is a great product to help dogs with limited mobility walk. It is used world-wide by dogs suffering from arthritis, recovering from hip and knee surgery and injuries. You can find GingerLead harnesses on Amazon.
The company introduced me the newest product they will be carrying in the near future. It is hip and thigh protection sleeve from VetMedWear. The sleeve completely covers a dog’s hind leg and is held in place with a lightweight collar.
I hope you enjoyed reading about the greatest products for paralyzed dogs from SuperZoo as much as I liked interviewing the innovators who are helping animals.
