Cody and Bailey have been Spokesdogs for Chewy.com for nearly a year and I have to admit that the majority of products the dogs have reviewed have been based on Bailey’s needs more than Cody’s. During the year as Bailey has grown from an energetic puppy to an adolescent, I’ve been trying to keep up with her insatiable need to chew so I’ve gravitated to products that would satisfy her. However, this month Chewy.com asked us to sample Merrick Grain-Free Venison Holiday Stew and it suited Cody perfectly.
Cody has been eating and reviewing the Venison Holiday Stew all month long. I knew he would love the taste because he is already on a diet of venison meat due to his Inflammatory Bowel Disease which requires him to eat a novel protein. What I didn’t know was whether or not the Merrick Stew would be kind to his delicate stomach issues.
Merrick Grain-Free Holiday Stew is made from venison, red jacket new potatoes, carrots, zucchini, peas and red delicious apples.
- Grain-free recipe
- Added vitamins and minerals

- Great for all stages of life
- Great for all breeds
I added a portion of the Venison Holiday Stew to Cody’s regular venison dry dog food. It didn’t take long for Cody to discover he was eating something new and completely different from his typical canned food. The Holiday Stew is filled with big chunks of venison, whole peas and potatoes. Cody is a large dog so he really enjoyed digging into a meal that had substance and whole pieces he could chew.
After Cody was done with his dinner I waited for the next part of our review. I needed to see how well the Merrick stew agreed with his delicate stomach. Without going into too much detail, I’m happy to report the stew didn’t cause Cody any undue distress. IBD causes Cody to release large volumes of greasy waste and the wrong type of food worsens his condition. He has a tough time holding onto weight so I didn’t want to give him a product that would cause him to get thinner.
Cody thoroughly enjoyed the Venison Holiday Stew and he’s continued to enjoy it every evening this month. Cody said he gives the stew a wholehearted two paws up vote.
Your dog can try sample the Merrick Venison Holiday Stew and have it shipped directly to your home by going to Chewy.com. If your dog tries the stew, I’d love to know how it goes.
