I love when people in a community pull together to help someone in need….especially when that someone is a homeless pet.
Girlie Girl was found paralyzed in a ditch on the side of the road last September after being hit by a car. The Humane Society of Faulkner County in Arkansas rescued the sweet Pit bull and after months of recovery it looked like she was slowly regaining the use of her legs. One bum foot stood in the way of her walking on her own until an animal lover in town came to her aid.
The Humane Society of Faulkner County was thrilled when Girlie Girl started to stand on her own and use her rear legs again. They thought she would soon be on her way to being adopted into a permanent home. The group even bought a harness to help her stand and practice walking, but while she was getting stronger one injured paw refused to heal. The paw was bent and caused Girlie Girl to trip on it with every step she took.
The rescue group turned to an unusual source for help. They went to see Josh Ketelsen who runs Snell Prosthetics/Orthotics, a company that custom manufactures artificial limbs and braces for people with disabilities. Josh examined Girlie Girl and decided that a custom boot would allow her to walk normally again.
Although Josh had never made a device for a dog he took a mold of the Girlie Girl’s paw and built a one-of-a-kind custom boot that would hold her paw in the right position.
The boot was slipped onto Girlie Girl and it worked perfectly. The once paralyzed dog walked again thanks to the custom boot. She is now happy to wear it all day long.
The final step in Girlie Girl’s recovery is to now find a family to adopt her. To find out more about this loving dog email: email@example.com.
