Spunky is a 12 year-old Husky mix who was adopted by Ashley Niels while she attended college. Last week the dog was diagnosed with a fast growing form of cancer called Hemangiosarcoma. The cancer invades the blood vessels and causes internal bleeding. There is no surgery or treatment to cure the disease.
A couple of years ago Ashley took a job in Austin, TX working for the Austin Animal Center. The new job took Spunky away from the snow country he loved and into a climate where it rarely snows.
When Ashley and Spunky moved she promised the dog to take him to play in the snow again, but life got busy and the promise had not been fulfilled.
With help from volunteers and staff at Austin Animal Center, Ashley was able to make good on her promise to Spunky. She and her coworkers made it snow in Austin. They created flurries of snowflakes for Spunky to enjoy.
