Paralyzed dogs are prone to losing their ability to bark

My family’s new “normal” life with our paralyzed dog, Sophie, was actually one of constant change. As soon as my husband Ken and I would become accustomed to a particular way of helping her, the paralysis would progress and take over more of her body.  We would find ourselves learning a new lesson and making adjustments for her care.

One of the biggest challenges came when Sophie lost her voice. Somewhere between year one and year two of her illness, Sophie lost the ability to bark.

Paralyzed Street Dog Travels From Taiwan For A Second Chance

How many times have you seen a picture of a sad homeless dog living in terrible conditions and said, “Someone should help that animal?” Well an animal lover from Colorado named Susan, made that comment after she saw a photo of a sick dog who was fending for himself on the other side of the globe. She spearheaded a rescue mission to give the paralyzed street dog from Taiwan a second chance.

This story originally posted in 2014, but I think the message about the strength of the human-animal bond makes it worth telling again.

I feel like I’m the last person in the world to hear about Poh the Dog and his bucket list adventure. Poh has been traveling all over the country with his owner since February when the dog was diagnosed with kidney disease and cancer. I decided to share his amazing story, just in case you haven’t heard about Poh’s great adventure either.

Happy April Fool’s Wordless Wednesday!   After reading the title of this story you probably think it’s an April Fool’s Day prank, but I promise the story is 100% true. 

Twin baby goats, Aldo and Wanda, were born on January 25 to the Petersen family in Kilauea, Hawaii. Everything about the goats looked normal, but 8 hours after their birth the babies started to have  problems.  Here’s a video that explains what happened.

Lessons From A Paralyzed Dog

Rickie Roo is a star in the world of dog agility competitions winning so many trophies and ribbons that it fills a room. Roo is also a star survivor of an eye disease called Primary Lens Luxation (PLL) that often leaves dogs blind. Despite her disability, the 7 year-old Rat Terrier qualified to compete in the 2015 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show Master Agility Challenge event.
