If you’re like me the New Year’s Resolutions I made at 12 o’clock midnight 2015 will soon be a distant memory. To keep me motivated, I’m going to remember the story of a paralyzed dog named Zeus and how he stayed focused on his goal to walk again.
This story was updated August 2018.
When I learned about Hailey’s Wheels for Life dog wheelchair assistance program in 2014, I knew I had to share their story. Today in 2018, the organization continues to be a great resource for handicapped dogs in need. The nonprofit group is based in Australia, but places wheelchairs and strollers with paralyzed dogs all over the world.
The group started in 2012, after a feisty West Highland Terrier named Hailey became an Internet sensation. Her owners Matt and Jules chronicled her battle against a parasitic disease of the spinal cord called Neosporosis. The couple did everything in their power to make Hailey’s last days, good days. In her honor they created Hailey’s Wheels for Life so that other dogs with neurological problems can have a quality life, like Hailey.

The dog wheelchair has given the gift of mobility to dogs and other pets that would have been left helpless because of paralysis, disease, old age and injuries. Popularity of the carts is growing so I thought it was the perfect time to share a review of the top models.
Adventures of a Super Pup, is an amazing site where Jen Franzino has been chronicling the recovery of Bella, her paralyzed Beagle. Bella became a paraplegic more than a year ago, after a misdiagnosis by her veterinarian led to a complicated surgery and an infection in her spine. Since that time, Jen has been dedicated to helping her dog walk again.
