Animal Haven in Manhattan has been around since 1967 rescuing homeless pets and rehabilitating them improve their chances for adoption. When a paralyzed Dachshund named Tazo was surrendered to their shelter, the staff knew immediately that his injury would not stop him from enjoying life. They helped in every way possible so the paralyzed dachshund got his second chance.
Tazo suffered a traumatic injury to his back that left his hind legs paralyzed, but at Animal Haven he wasn’t seen as a disabled dog. Instead they saw Tazo as a little “fighter” who needed a bit of help to improve his chances of finding a new home.
The staff mobilized and enrolled Tazo at the Water 4 Dogs rehabilitation facility where he received massage therapy and hydrotherapy. They also taught him how to play and socialize with other dogs.
One day the people from BarkBox and Natural Balance surprised Tazo with a room full of treats, toys and a donation to pay for his therapy. He was also surprised with a visit from Turbo-Roo, the famous two legged Chihuahua who delivered a 3D printed custom wheelchair for Tazo.
Finally Tazo got the best surprise of his life when he was adopted into a family of his own.
Animal Haven is a nonprofit animal rescue group in New York City. They pride themselves on intervening on behalf of homeless pets in order to improve their chances for adoption.
