Three times this week my Facebook friends have recommended FB Pages that help disabled pets. All of the Pages are adorable and so inspiring that I want to share them with you. Each site is unique and dedicated to dogs with different types of handicaps, but EVERY Page demonstrates that dogs with special needs can lead happy lives.
Special Needs Sump’m is a fun FB Page with a big message about “specially-abled dogs.” The dachshund, named Sump’m, learned about handicapped life on the streets before being adopted and fitted for his very own wheelchair. Now he is learning about the world of special dogs known as specially-abled. Hint: Sump’m is a cartoon character.
Red Flyer, The Handicapped Pets Community is about helping disabled dogs “fly again” after they have lost the ability to walk because of an injury or illness. The nonprofit group accepts used wheelchairs that they refurbish and loan at no charge to families of handicapped pets. There slogan is “No pet should be alone or without the gift of mobility.” The group has loaned more than 90 wheelchairs since 2012.
Mickey the Bulldog and the Padded Bum Crew is a FB page about five English Bulldogs born with a birth defect called Spina Bifida. Mickey has no feeling or use of his back legs, but can dance circles around any healthy dog. His diaper-clad housemates are fun-loving dogs too.
Mickey and his crew are featured on Lessons From A Paralyzed Dog this week. You can read the entire Story: Spina Bifida Won’t Stop Mickey And The Padded Bum Crew.
