My dogs like to celebrate Valentine’s Day almost as much as I do. So in honor of the holiday I whipped up a batch of Valentine’s Day Dog Cookies from a recipe shared by my blogging buddy, Suzanne at apuginthekitchen.
Cody and even little Bailey are always nervous when I go into the kitchen to cook because it doesn’t happen very often, but I was determined to bake them a treat for Valentine’s Day. I like this recipe because it only has 6 ingredients and requires only one bowl. My dogs loved them and I hope your pups enjoy them too.
Valentine’s Day Dog Cookies Recipe
(Banana, Blueberry, Peanut Butter Treats)
Makes 12-24 depending on size
- 1 banana, peeled
- 1 cup oat or barley flour
- 2/3 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup frozen or fresh blueberries
- 3 tablespoons organic sugar free peanut butter
- 1 egg, beaten
Preheat oven to 300°F. Put banana in a large bowl and use a spoon or potato masher to mash it thoroughly. Add oat or barley flour, oats, blueberries, peanut butter and egg and stir well to combine. Set aside for 5 minutes.
Roll mixture into 24 balls, using about 1 tablespoon dough for each; transfer to a large parchment paper-lined baking sheet as done. Use the back of a spoon or the heel of your hand to press each ball into a (1 1/2- to 2-inch) coin. Bake until firm and deep golden brown on the bottom, 40 to 45 minutes. Set aside to let cool completely.
Storage note: It’s best to store these in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Or, freeze them to give to your pal later; just be sure to thaw the treats before handing them out. Happy Valentine’s Day!
