It’s time for the first-ever Book Giveaway from Lessons From A Paralyzed Dog. My friends at HandicappedPets.com asked me to review their eye-opening book called Miracle Dogs Adventures On Wheels by Sandy Johnson.
First, I want to share with you that I am not being compensated for my review. HandicappedPets.com asked for my input because my dog Sophie used the Walkin’ Wheels dog wheelchair.
If you’ve ever wondered what you would do if your pet became paralyzed, Miracle Dogs Adventures On Wheels will give you plenty of insight. The book is a collection of true stories from real pet parents who gave their dogs and even a goat a second chance after they faced a catastrophic injury or illness that left them partially paralyzed.
I fell in love with Miracle Dogs as pet owners from around the world shared their personal experiences and the cultural views of dogs in their country. You’ll meet dogs like WangWang who lived on the streets of China. One day the skinny, little dog dragged herself to the yard of a construction site with a broken back. Workers made sure she was safely placed into the hands of an animal rescue group that helped her get a lifesaving surgery and a Walkin’ Wheels wheelchair.
Puddy is a Basset Hound from Missouri who suffered a severe ruptured disc. His family gave up plans for a trip to Alaska so Puddy could have surgery. The procedure was a success, but just when he was on the road to recovery a second disc burst. This time veterinarians said Puddy was not a candidate for surgery so the dog slowly became paralyzed in his hind legs. Puddy’s family bought him a wheelchair so he could be as mobility as possible. Now Puddy runs with his dog housemates and dances in his wheelchair for a cookie.
Thelma Louise is a goat who lives in Ohio at Storybook Acres Disabled Animal Rescue. She was born with brittle bone disease. Thelma is a sensitive girl who earned her keep by being a surrogate mother to a baby goat named Annie. When Annie got well enough to run around she left poor Thelma behind. Michele Marshall, who runs Storybook contacted HandicappedPets.com to see if a wheelchair could be fashioned for a goat. The company went right to work and now Thelma Louise can run all over the sanctuary with her friend.
The Book Giveaway
Miracle Dogs is full of wonderful true stories and a special account from Mark C. Robinson who invented the Walkin’ Wheels dog wheelchair. The book took me back to the tough decisions my own family had to make when Sophie became paralyzed. It’s a must-read for any dog (or goat) lover.
One lucky person who comments below will be entered to win Miracle Dogs by award winning author Sandy Johnson. I’d love to know what one of your favorite books are too!
