Can you guess why Onyx is standing on this big red ball? Take a minute….I’ll wait until you have an answer.
Balancing on the ball is one of the rehab exercises Onyx does to strengthen her legs after she ruptured a ligament in her knee. Cranial cruciate ligament ruptures are usually repaired with a surgery, but Onyx is not a candidate. These types of injuries are one of the most common orthopedic problems seen in dogs so when it happened to Onyx she was sent to work with a canine physical therapist.
Here is a short video of how the big red ball was used to help repair Onyx’s knee.
To locate rehab support like this in your area, HandicappedPets.com recently added an Animal Rehab program to help pet parents find a canine physical therapist nearby. They also offer online rehab videos so parents can work with their dogs in their own home.
